In Greene County district court Christina Marie Heath, 31, of Jefferson was granted deferred judgments after she pleaded guilty to charges of lascivious conduct with a minor and indecent exposure, amended from sexual exploitation by a counselor or therapist. On each of the charges she was assessed a $315 civil penalty and was placed on probation for two years. She must enroll on the sex offender registry. In addition, per Code 903B.2, after the probation is finished she will remain in the custody of the Iowa Department of Corrections for 10 years under special sentencing language. She will begin the special sentence as if on parole. Heath must pay $100 court costs and restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees to be determined. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. Kester)
Cody Lee Sellman, 26, of Scranton was sentenced to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon. The prison term is concurrent to prison terms in another Greene County and two other Carroll County cases. Sellman was fined $750 with a $262.50 surcharge; both were suspended. Court costs totaled $5,180, with $5,000 of that paid through bond forfeiture. He must also pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees in an amount to be determined. Charges of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and manufacturing marijuana were dismissed. (Sentencing: Kester)
Ricardo Emmanuell Rodriquez, 29, of Jefferson was sentenced to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated (OWI)-third offense. The prison term is concurrent to a term in another Greene County case. All but 30 days was suspended and Rodriquez was placed on probation for three years. He must pay sheriff’s fees for the jail time he served, a $3,125 fine with a $1,093.75 surcharge, a $10 DARE surcharge, $180 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $180 court costs. His driver’s license was revoked for six years. Rodriquez must follow the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation and complete a community college drinking drivers course. A charge of child endangerment was dismissed. (Sentencing: Kester)
Tamara Kay Arnold, 43, of Jefferson was sentenced to two years in prison after she pleaded guilty to prohibited acts, proprietor- keeping a vehicle for the purpose of possession or selling a controlled substance. The prison term was suspended and Arnold was placed on probation for two years. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. She was fine $625 with a $218.75 surcharge; both were suspended. She must pay a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative (LEI) surcharge, a $10 DARE surcharge, $240 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs.
Arnold also pleaded guilty to a charge of accessory after the fact. She was sentenced to two years in prison, consecutive. The prison time was suspended and she was placed on probation for two years. She was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge; both were suspended. Arnold was originally charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of a firearm by a felon- aiding and abetting (19 counts). A companion case in magistrate court in which Arnold was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed. (Sentencing: Kester)
Alexander Ward Carter, 21, of Glidden was sentenced to 60 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of OWI-first offense. All but two days of the jail time was suspended and Carter was placed on informal probation for one year. He must follow the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation and complete a community college drinking drivers school. Carter must pay sheriff’s fees for the jail time he serves. He was fined $1,250 with a $437.50 surcharge; if he obtains a temporary restricted license one-half the fine and surcharge will be suspended. He must pay a $10 DARE surcharge, restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees in an amount to be determined, and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)
Mariah Morgan Haley, 19, of Carroll was sentenced to two years in prison after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. The prison term was suspended and she was placed on probation for two years. She was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge; both were suspended. Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignments July 10 as follows: Christopher Herbert Lawrence, 35, of Jefferson, driving while license barred, carrying weapons in a separate case, and a third case in which he was charged with both driving while license barred and carrying weapons; Mark Lee Jackson, 48, of Des Moines, burglary-third degree, burglary-third degree habitual offender, and possession of burglar’s tools; Merissa Shawnay Olson, 25, of Jefferson, child endangerment; Patrick Michael Kennedy, 30, of Jefferson, harassment – second degree; Shauna Carrie Allen, 28, of Jefferson, domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury; Collin Daniel Richards, 18, of Bayard, domestic abuse assault causing injury; and Mark James Hurley, 49, of Bayard, assault causing bodily injury. Trial dates were set for Aug. 25 for Jackson and for Sept. 29 in all other cases.
